According to the new proposal of the Act on Amendments to the Compulsory Health Insurance Act, which passed the first reading in the Croatian Parliament on 29.04.2025.  from June 2025, the Croatian Health Insurance Fund (HZZO) should significantly increase the amount of sick leave compensation.

The most important change refers to the maximum monthly compensation for sick leave longer than 42 days that is paid on the burden of the HZZO , which should increase from the current 565 euros to 995 euros, which represents an increase of almost 76%.

In addition, the salary compensation for the care of a sick child under the age of seven will be 100% of the base salary, which is a significant improvement compared to the previous age limit of three years.

These changes to the law align the benefits with the growth of the average salary in Croatia, which rose from about 600 euros in 2006 to an estimated 1366 euros in 2025.

As the adoption of the law itself is still in the procedure, workers are waiting with great interest for the adoption of the final regulation, since it is expected that these changes will significantly improve the financial position of workers and parents who are on sick leave.
